Abstract: A rare cause of cholecystitis is bacterial infection caused by Salmonella. Complications can be very severe, but are rare, and include fistula formation, intestinal obstruction caused by gallstones or inflammation, and even necrosis and rupture or perforation of adjacent tissue or organs.
This case report describes a 70-year-old man who became seriously ill with Salmonella-induced cholecystitis. The infection caused an infected fluid collection, fistula formation to the duodenum, as well as arteritis with pseudoaneurysm formation, bleeding and intestinal obstruction caused by gallstone.
