13:00-13:30 Opening ceremony

The opening ceremony takes place in Hall 1.

The president of Iceland, Mr. Ólafur Ragnar Grímsson, will open the congress formally. Professor Elías Ólafsson, MD, PhD, and Ásta Möller, member of the parliament of Iceland, 2nd vice-president of the International Council of Nurses, former president of the Icelandic Nurses Association, will address the congress.



17:30-19:00 Welcome reception at Reykjavík City Hall

The welcome reception is by invitation of the City Council of Reykjavík and takes place in the City Hall, in the centre of town. You will get the opportunity to enjoy drinks and small canapés, while greeting old and new friends.

Buses leave from the congress hotels at 17:20.



Thursday, May 30

9:00-13:00 City sightseeing for accompanying guests

The tour is a great introduction to Reykjavík, past and present. The city is situated on a peninsula. To the east are hills and mountain ranges. Reykjavík is the nation's centre of culture, government, commerce and industry.

Departure at 09:00 from Háskólabíó.



17:00-17:45 Iceland, nature and landscape

Raw forces of nature - glaciers, volcanoes and the ocean - have been forging and shaping the face of Iceland for twenty million years and are still hard at work. It is a country which moves alarmingly beneath your feet with an earthquake or a volcanic eruption every five years or so.

Friday, May 31

17:00-17:45 Icelandic Sagas

Delight in culture that has been an inseparable part of the Icelanders' character and identity ever since they wrote the medieval Sagas. The lecture will give you an insight into some of the most famous Icelandic Sagas.

20:00-01:00 Gala dinner

A three-course dinner with wine and entertainment at Broadway at Radisson SAS - Hotel Ísland.

No transportation provided. Price: EUR 75,- per person.

Congress Excursions

Saturday, June 1

13:00-18:30 The Golden Circle, Thingvellir - Gullfoss - Geysir

This excursion offers some of the best-known natural phenomena of this country. We visit the national park, Þingvellir (Thingvellir), a highly interesting geological region and the most significant historic site of the country for its ancient parliament, Alþingi (Althing). We continue to the impressive waterfall, Gullfoss, and the geothermal area Geysir where we stop for refreshments. This tour also takes you through fertile agricultural areas where a photo stop is made by the crater, Kerið.

Price: EUR 43,- per person. Incl.: Bus, guidance and afternoon refreshments.







13:00-17:00 The Blue Lagoon

The lagoon is rich in a unique natural combination of minerals. Blue-green algae and white silica mud form a light natural sediment on the bottom of the lagoon and give the lagoon its soft, milky, aquamarine colour. After a refreshing bath and refreshments at the Blue Lagoon we will visit "Gjáin" (the "Gorge") at Svartsengi. An exhibition has been opened in "Gjáin" where the local geology, geothermal activity and the harnessing of the energy from the bowels of the Earth are on show.

Price: EUR 48,- per person.

Included: Bus, guidance, towel rental and entry to the Blue Lagoon and Gjáin.


General Information

The Congress is held at the Conference and Cultural Centre of the University of Iceland, Háskólabíó, in halls 1, 2, 3 and 4. Háskólabíó is adjacent to the Radisson SAS - Hotel Saga, and close to the city centre of Reykjavík.



Preparation for presentation

Facilities for viewing and arranging slides before presentation are provided on the 2nd floor of Háskólabíó, entrance by elevator from the foyer between halls 2 and 3. Speakers are requested to use this facility to ensure that their slides are in the correct order. All speakers are asked to present themselves to the technician with their slides at least two hours before the beginning of their session. Please note that for power point presentations you need to hand in a PC-diskette or CD-ROM with your presentation.



Posters

The poster sessions will be in the foyer of Háskólabíó. Boards are marked with the number of posters and fittings are provided. Authors are expected to be by their posters during the Poster session and have it on display until 17:00.



Posters should be mounted between:

08:00-11:00 on Thursday May 30 and removed at 17:00 the same day.

08:30-13:00 on Friday May 31 and removed at 17:00 the same day.



The Congress Organizers has no responsibility regarding the posters.



Chairmen

Please be present in your session hall at least 15 minutes prior to your session. The session must stay on schedule so that individuals who want to hear a specific talk may do so without concerns of time. It is thus vital that all speakers observe their time allotment. If a presentation is cancelled you may either call for general discussion instead or call a recess.



Language

Oral and poster presentations must be in English. No simultaneous translations will be provided.



Breaks

Coffee, tea and refreshments are served in the foyer of Háskólabíó during coffee breaks.



Meals

Lunches on May 30 and 31 will be served at the Radisson SAS SAGA Hotel - Súlnasalur.



Messages

Messages will be posted on a bulletin board near the registration and information desk.



Conference Badges

Your personal badge is your entrance ticket to all sessions and lunches on May 30 and 31 and you are obliged to wear it throughout the meeting. Should you misplace your badge, a replacement can be obtained at the registration and information desk for the price of ISK 700.-.

The Congress Secretariat and registration desk is located in the entrance hall of Háskólabíó. The Secretariat is in charge of the registration, hotel bookings, social arrangements and excursions. Public transport

Buses no. 4, 5, 6 and 7 stop near Háskólabíó, the fare is ISK 200,- and you require exact change. Taxis are available outside all hotels, Háskólabíó and in the City Centre at a reasonable price.



Banking facilities

A bank is located in Háskólabíó. Opening hours are Monday to Friday from 09:15-16:00. ATMs are both at Háskólabíó and Radisson SAS SAGA Hotel. Money exchange service is also available at the Tourist Information Centre, Bankastræti 2. Opening hours are from 08:30-20:00.



Credit cards

Commonly accepted cards in hotels, shops, restaurants and at the registration desk at Háskólabíó are: Visa, MasterCard, EuroCard and DinersCard.
